This is a society run by and for students alongside the University of Melbourne's postgraduate
Neuropsychology programme. The society's aims are to promote an academic atmosphere and
strong social relationships between students of all year levels. We complete the former
through a series of special keynote presentations and weekly seminars, the latter through
regular social events. Anyone - students, non-students, from Melbourne University or elsewhere - are
welcome to attend. See the links for presentation details or email the NSS if you'd like to be
on the mailing list.
The value and potential of the NSS is hard to emphasise enough, but to get some idea,
consider what makes your experience at university a good one. The staff, course structure
and course content are critical, but so too is your involvement in an intelligent, friendly
and supportive network of students. These later elements are determined by your own efforts, and
are easy to neglect as the pressures of study mount. The friendships we form - both within and
across the year levels - keep us shy of DSM-IV diagnoses as we tackle theses, let us laugh (or cry)
our way through course-related difficulties and give us invaluable contacts in Australia and overseas
when we enter the work force. Postgraduate study is about collaboration, and the NSS is there to help
you do this.
If you would like to become a part of the society, involvement with the committee involves very little
other than attendance at one meeting each semester and helping another member coordinate the Thursday
presentation a few times each semester. Contact the NSS if you would like to know more information.
